Find the Perfect Face Lift for You
A facelift, more formally known as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck. A facelift does not change the fundamental appearance of your face, but corrects problems such as:
- Sagging of the skin
- Excess fat around the neck or double chin
- Deep fold lines around the nose and mouth
- Cheek or jaw jowls
Face lifts can range from a small mini-lift or mid-face lift to a traditional full face lift. To achieve the most natural looking results, you may also need add-on procedures — volume replacement and liposuction being two common additions.
Mini Face Lift
A mini-lift produces comparable results to a traditional face lift but with less scarring and quicker recovery time. A mini face lift may lift the skin and reposition some underlying tissue on the middle portion of the face or the lower third, but not both. It’s best suited for younger patients with good skin tone but may be starting to experience laxity in their lower face and jaw. Another advantage of the mini lift is it can be tailored to meet specific isolated problem areas and slow down signs of aging.
The mini face lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Rieger uses shorter incisions, usually in front of the ears, to lift and move the skin and tissue. After surgery, a compression bandage will be placed around your face and neck to help minimize the bruising and swelling. You may experience mild bruising or swelling that goes away within a few weeks. Down time is recommended for the first 2-3 days. Physical activity should be lowered for 2-3 weeks.
Mid Face Lift
A mid face lift is a great way to help lift and restore the middle of the face for a more youthful appearance. Mid face lifts are often performed in conjunction with other surgical procedures such as eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty or liposuction.
The mid face lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia. You are usually discharged the same day. A dressing is applied for the first few days and sutures are typically removed the following week. You may experience mild bruising or swelling that goes away within a few weeks. Down time is recommended for the first 2-3 days. Physical activity should be lowered for 2-3 weeks.
Full Face Lift
A full face lift addresses the lower two-thirds of the face by repositioning tissue, tightening the skin and reducing wrinkles, lines and folds. Traditionally, an incision is made at the hairline near the temples. A second incision under the chin may be necessary. Sutures or skin adhesives close the incisions and can be removed one week post-surgery.
A compression bandage will be placed around your face and neck to help minimize the bruising and swelling that occurs after surgery. A small tube may be placed under the skin to allow excess fluid and blood to drain from the incision site to ensure proper healing. Swelling and bruising may take several weeks to resolve. You should be able to return to your normal activities within two to three weeks.
