Everything You Need To Know About A Brow Lift
Wrinkles, sagging skin, and fine lines around the forehead and eyes are often a few of the first signs of aging to appear on our face. All of these things can leave you with an angry, tired, and aged appearance. However, a brow lift can help create a more smooth and relaxed appearance in these areas. In this article, we discuss everything you need to know about a brow lift to help you decide whether the procedure is right for you.
What is a brow lift?
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure in which an elevated, more youthful appearance is created to minimize wrinkles across the forehead or high on the bridge of the nose and reposition low or sagging brows.
What steps are involved in a brow lift procedure?
Your surgeon will begin by using intravenous sedation or general anesthesia to keep you comfortable during your procedure. If you are having an endoscopic brow lift, your surgeon will use an endoscope (a surgical video camera) and special instruments that are placed into small incisions made within your hairline to reposition, alter, or remove the tissue and muscle beneath the skin. This method corrects visible creases and furrows in the forehead. Low-positioned or sagging brows can be corrected through incisions placed at the temples and in the scalp. If you are having a coronal brow lift done, your surgeon will make an incision from ear to ear in the scalp, allowing them to pinpoint specific regions of the brow to correct. Incision lines are well concealed within the hair or natural contours of your face. The incisions are then closed using removable or absorbable sutures, skin adhesives, surgical tape, and/or special clips.
What can I expect during recovery after a brow lift procedure?
Dr. Rieger will provide you with specific post-surgery recovery and care instructions. It is very important for you to follow these instructions carefully to maximize your healing. Immediately following your brow lift surgery, your forehead may be taped and/or loosely wrapped to minimize swelling and bruising and you may have a thin tube present to drain excess blood or fluid that can collect under the skin. You should keep your head elevated and stay well rested, performing no vigorous activity until your surgeon clears you. You can usually expect to have your sutures and clips removed within 7-10 days and to be ready to return to normal routines that do not put you at risk for injury within 10-14 days. Your full recovery time will depend on the type of brow lift procedure you had done. While results will be noticeable to the public within weeks, it is important to know that swelling may continue to decrease for several months.
